CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the council of tho Wellington Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday. The president (Mr, A. E. Mabin) was in tho chair, and there were also present Messrs. C. W. Jones, W. G. Duthie, W. J. Thomson, T. Ballinger, J, 1) M'Ewan, G. Wilson, W. B. Lees, J. Macintosh, and F. W. Manton. The resignation of Sir John Findlay as a member of tho Chamber was received and accepted. Messrs. J. Mandel, M. A. Carr, and C. Slack were elected members. Mr. A. 11. Jliles intimated that he did not wish to act on tho Hemp Committee, and Mr. A. Leigh Hunt advised that lie could not act as oonvener of the Legislation Committee. It wai not deemed necessary to fill Mr. Miles's position, and the chairman's action in, appointing Mr. E. G. Pilcher as convener of tho Legislation Committee was approved. It was decided to wnto to tho Prime Minister sunporting tho application of the Napier Chamber of Coinmerco that tho slopes on tho shores of Lako Waikareinoana, carrying boautiful bush, should be declared a scenic reserve.
