HARRIERS.
The Wellington Harrier Club_ did not muster very strongly at South Ivarori on Saturday. The fourteen members who wero present indulged in a run over a distance of approximately seven miles. JI. Harrison and C. Thompson were detailed to lay tho trail. To arrive at some 'equality among the competitors in the run an attempt was mads at handicapping, and runners were dispatched in batches. The arrangements w<:re slightly upset through the hares not being granted a more lengthy start,' and for some distance the! held had to slow down. The event resulted in a • win for T. J. Kerr, with D. M'Donald second, about a hundred yards away, and W. Donaldson third, about the same distanco behind the pecoiul man. Kerr and Jl'Donaid had about four minute's'start of Donaldson, who was in the scratch division, and the slowing down of the field affected the back markers considerably, «s they came abnost to a standstill, and had the worst part of the course in front of them, whereas the limit men were gradually moving forward over the bad country. The Brooklyn Harriers were the guests of Mr. -P. Seager at Ifarori on. Saturday afternoon. Thirty-four members assembled to take part in tho run. The hares were Deputy-Captain Warmington and R. Cook. A scratch run-in was held over the last half-mile, and resulted in F. Byrne gaining first place, with C.Murray and R. Ballnntyno close on his heels. Afterwards members were entertained at afternoon tea.
