HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.
SHIELD CHALLENGE. The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Hockey Association was held last evening. Mr. C. N. Cathie presiding. The Wellington Ladies' Association was granted the use of five grounds at Huron Park. The charge, however, was set at ,Gl2 IDs. in place of the XIU offered. The following dates were provisionally fixed for notification to the associations concerned, for the playing of Shield challenge matches-.—Southland, June 28, Hawke's Bay, July 20; Otago, August 23; Auckland, September 20. The Hutt Park Committee wrote in reply to a letter from the association and stated that they were desirous of doing whatever was possible to get the grounds in order- for playing, but regretted that the weather and various other circumstances had been against them. They hoped, however, to get everything prepared to the' satisfaction of the association in the oourso of a week or two,
The chairman reported in reference to tlio same matter. Two of the grounds, lie said, wero nearly equal to No. 2 Day's Bay, as played on last year. The caretaker considered the other ground would bo the best after lie had given it the same attention as tho other two had rereived. The chairman suggested that nothing further be done in regard to the lease till the new Hutt Park Committee had been appointed.' The report was adopted. On the motion of the secretary it was decided to inflict a fine of ss. on any defaulting club, unless notice was given by the Thursday evening before the match.
