Mitchelson, of Auckland, is making a good recovery from the effects of tho serious accident which befel him at Takapuna in March last, and he contemplates leaving on a visit to Queensland during tho present week, for tho purpose of further recruiting his health. A Press Association message from London states that London University has conferred a Docto;"shir> of Science on Mr. F. P. Worley, of Auckland. The Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Crossley, is suffering from serious nervous prostration, and has been ordered by his ineclicnl adviser to tako an immediate and pr<slonged rest. The Bishop left this evening' for Sydney by the Maheno.—Press Association. The death occurred at Nelson yesterday, says a Press Association telegram, of Mrs. W. J. Glasgow, a very old resident, need 82 years. At his residence, Nairn Street, last evening there passed nway nn old identity in Mr. Archibald Kelly, who has led a retired life for the last seven years since giving up tho seafaring life. Deceased was one of the first presidents of the Australasian Instituto of Marine Engin-J cers, and lias been in tho Dominion over BO years. Born in tho Island of Bute, Scotland, in 183G, ho served his apprenticeship in Glasgow. In 1851 he came to Australia in tho s.s. Slormbird, • landing in Melbourne, and coming over to Auckland in the s.s. Wonga-Wonga. After spending threo years in New Zealand lie returned to Australia where ho engagedin quartz-mining for four years, returning to tho sea in ISO 2, when lio becamo engineer in one of Messrs. Mills and Co.'s steamers. Two years later, during tho Native troubles, ho accepted a position under tho Government on tho Waikato River. Subsequently he successively served tho Tauama Company, tho New Zealand Shipping Company, Johnston and Co., and W. and G. Turnbull and Co. Tlio last steamer he served in was tlio Kahu, in which ho remained for over 17 years. Mr. Kelly's wife predeceased him 20 years ago. He leaves threo sons and three daughters. His eldest son is chief engineer on tho Policrna, Mr. J. M. Kelly is on the Te Aro tlmiso staff; aud Mr. J. A. ICelly at Stewart aud Co. Tho eldest daughter (Sirs. J. W. Gibson) resides at Levin.

Mr: George-Snow, who arrived in Now Zealand seventy-two years ago, in the very early days of tho Kelson settlement, died yesterday at Wanganui, aged 81. Mr. Snow, who was nino years old when lie landed witli his parents at Nelson, lived there for a number of years, but for tho last twenty years had been a resident of Upper Rutt. He was on it visit to Wanganui at tho time of his death. Ho leaves two daughters and four 6ons, one of whom (Ml'. C. If. Snow) resides in Wellington. Mrs. Snow predeceased her husland and died in Wanganui three months ago. Mr. E. Hoaley, of Messrs. R. G. Dun and Co., who has been prominent in swimming circles in this city, has been appointed manager of tho firm's Christchurch branch. Ho left for the south on Friday evening last. Mr. Harry Musgrovc, who has been business manager of many Cicatrical attractions and concert enterprises throughout Australia and New Zealand, has been engaged by Mr. Frederick Sltipman in connection with the forthcoming tours of David Bispham, the distinguished baritone, and' Mine. Nordiea. Tho death occurred last week at Nowra, New South Wales, of Mr. ■ Charles l,atnond, of Meroo, a noted breeder of Ayrshire cattle, and loading priMMviiuior at tho South Coast and Sydney shown. Mr, Lewis Waller, jun., was a passenger by the Ventura last week to Sydney. Ho has conic to Australia to arrango thu pre. liminaries of tho dramatic season of Mr. Waller, son., and Miss Madge Titheradgo, beginning in Sydnoy in July. Adjutant and Mrs. Haywood, of tlio Salvation Army Auckland City corps, liuvo recoived orders from Commissioner Richards to take up a now appointment. Dr. Turnbull and Dr. Cockayno were passengers for tho south by the Maori last evening. Mr. P. Hnlly, Conciliation Commissioner, left for Christchurch last evening, en route lo the West Coast, in connection with the conciliation business. Mr. W. Fisher, of Carterton, was a passenger for tho south by tho Maori last evening. The town clerk has not yet received advice from Mr, Bernard T.
