ZOO ART COMPETITION.

The secretary of the Wellington Zoological Society reports:—"Thero are 20 entries for the art competition, which closes, oh Saturday. The seven, entries received in the oils division give an emphatic denial to the oft-repeated statement that art Is dead in Wellington. It may have been asleep, but when these pictures are exhibited it will be admitted that there are paintings of animals in our midst worthy of appreciation. The Neir Zealand Academy of Fine Arts havo appointed three judges to. decide the merit of these pictures. The prizes will be presented on Wednesday ovening next at the W.C.T.U. Rooms, Constable Street. Tho

pictures, which are for sale, will be exhibited during tho ovening. A quarter of the. purchase money goes towards the purchase-of a flamingo nnd •_two European cranes, .which the Zoological Society expect to arrive this week.".

On "Wednesday, June A,. at B'p.m.. Mr. 'A. W. Martiu, rupture specialist, and sole controller of the Dr. J. A. Sherman method of treatment, will close his present visit to Wellington, and will leave for Auckland on his way to the Commonwealth. Prospective patients should understand, therefore, that the time is extremely limited during which they can avail themselves of . this, tho only scientific method of dealing with their malady. Mr. A. W. Martin is particularly anxious to impress the fact of his departure upon all sufferers from rupture; _ because at every;rcturn visit he is invariably obliged to listen to the laments of those who have ' to express regret at their own past negligence—negligence which has"been the solo reason for continuous suffering over a long period. Prior to leaving Wellington, Mr. Martin is pleased to ■ tender liis thanks to'scoresof patients who have written gratefully acknowledging the groat benefits, .both mental and physical, they "have derived from his treatment.
