Mr. Watt (Premier of Victoria) was entertained at a reception given by Lady Fuller, wife of the Governor of Victoria. There were six hundred • guests, including Sir George Reid (High Commissioner for Australia) and party, the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand) and party, the Agents-General for the Australian, States, and their wives, Captain. Tho "Standard of Empire" says that Mr. Deakin's prediction that Mr. Watt (Promier of Victoria) would bo a man whom ■ London would listen to had been fulfilled. "Not since Mr Deakin's eloquence charmed Home audiences," adds tho paper, "has an Australian statesman been heard here who could exercise the power Mr. Watt has shown." MR. WATT GIVES A BANQUET. London, May 29. Mr. Watt gave a banquet to Mr. M'Bride, yictorian Minister for Mines, at tho Hotel Cecil. The guests numbered 180. ■ They included the Agents-General, Captain Collins, Sir Charles Lucas, Mr. D. Mackinnon, and leading city men. Mr. C. E. Hobliouse, Under-Secretary for . India, proposed "The Dominions." Sir Gcorgo Reid, Mr. Pcako (Promier of South Australia), and Sir Samuel Griffith replied. \ Mr. Baillieu (M.L.C., Victoria) proposed the health of Mr. Watt.
