' ' HUGE INTERESTS AT STAKE. In the course of an article on sheep bleeding in tho Department of Agricultur's Journal, Mr. J. L. Bruce gives a few figures which indicate the great importance of tho sheep-breeding industry, and tho dominant part it plays in our . national prosperity. The total number of. sheep in tho Dominion at April 30, 1912, was 23,750,153. The exports for twelve months ending March 31, 1912, were as follow:— Mutton and lamb exported and £ locally consumed, 6,138,176 carcasses, value 4,417,012 Sheep (live) exported, 7,855, valuo .., 40,000 . Wool exported, 176,963,6071b.; locally utilised, 206,2501b., value 6,785,234 Skins, pelts, fat, audi by-pro-ducts, value 913,183 Total £12,215,159 Prom tho above figures it will bo ofc.served that tho amount received form wool, mutton, and by-products is. equal to about 10s. 3d. per head on tho flocks of tlio Dominion.
