HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Onr Hnecinl Correspondent.) FAKEWELL Tt> LEAGUERS , , At Palmer's Empire Hotel, Petono, last evening, tho Petone League Football Club entertained members (Messrs. Brice, Byrne, Probestel, and Miller) who accompany tho New Zealand team which leaves for Sydney to-morrow. .Mr. 11. K. Wright presided, and thero was an excellent attendance. Tho toast list honoured was as under: "New Zealand Council," proposed by Mr. Tovev and responded to by Mr. Brico; "Wellington League," proposed by Mr. Anderson, and responded to by Messrs. Whitley, and Frassr; "Our' Guests,'' proposed by Mr. Wright, and responded to by Messrs. Brice, Byrne, nad I'ro-M-stel; "The Petono Club," proposed by Mr. D. Fraser, and responded to by Messrs Senior, Bcale, and Hey. The musical portion of tho programme was provided by Messrs. Cashman, ney, Anderson, Findlay, Miller, and Blackey. Mr. Head played the accompaniments.
THE HUTT ROAD SLIP. Although the progress l of clearing the bi? land slide on the Hutt Boad, near Nl'ahauranga, is somewhat slow, the work is being steadily carried on by a fairly large gang. Thero is, however, little evidence to indicate that the huge amount of earth which came down has been much decreased. Current expectation is that some months must elapse before the road is restored to its normal condition. FAKEWELL DANCE. At St. Augustine's Hall, Petone, Inst night, Miss M'Arthur tendered a faifwell dance' to Mesdames M'Gee and M'Ghie, who -shortly leave the district for Pnlmerston. About fifty guests were presont. and a very successful function closed shortly after midnight. The departing guests' were each presented with tokens of esteem. THE PARK .AFFAIRS. Tho initial meeting of the newly-elected nnrmbers of tho Hutt Park Committee will bo held next Monday night. After the business of appointing a chairman and ■secretary has been got through, it is likely that tho question of leasing tho park to tlio Hiilt Valley Trotting Club will bo discussed.
