FEATHERSTON ITEMS.
The Literary and Debating Society held an "open night" on Tuesday, when thero was a largo attondance. Tho entertainment consisted of a lecture by Mr. J. 11. Fioldhouso on the lifo of tho composer Handel, interspersed with vocal selections, rendered by local amateurs, from Handel's works. Mrs. Fieldhouso sang "Lascia che io pinnea/' from tho oponx "Kmaldo," and "He Was Despised, irom "The Messiah." Other items, mainly from "Tho Messiah," "Samson Agonistes, ami "Judas Maccabeus," were contributed bv Mesdames Fieldhouso, Wickcns, Misses Hursthouse (2). Lifford, and Mr. J. \. Wilson. Accompaniment's were played by Miss Alice HuYsthonse. It is n-obaW* that further gatherings of a similar nature will bo arranged during the winter. Messrs. D. P. Fisher and Keg. White, of Wellington, have been at Pigeon Bush sinco Monday, in connection with tlio monoplane built by tho former. Everything is now in goin<; order with tlie machine, and it was intended to make an exhibition flight yesterday, but tho weather was inclined to be windy. Johnston and Co. have received instructions to sell the contents of 20 rooms of the Cheltenham Hotel, Cheltenham, by auction, on Saturday, May 31, commencing at 10 a.m. A largo yarding of stock will bo sold by auction at tho Palmeraton North stock salo, which U announced 'or to-day.
