CROSSING THE BLUE MOUNTAINS,
CHAIN OF BONFIRES,

Great preparations were made tor the celebration to-day, of tho centenary of the grossing of -the Blue Mountains. There was glorious weather and ihe various "mountain centres were gaily foot-r----ated. , , . -
The principal locality for the festivities was Mount Victoria, where Sir Gerald Strickland, 1 Governor of New Sr.uth Wales, dedicated Victoria Park. He then proceeded to Mount York where he unveiled a memorial tablet on a pav'bon ercctc-d in honour of Blaxland, W.mtworth, and Lawson, the three pioneers, who discovered the route across tho mountains.
The proceedings to-night include the ighting„of bonfires on a liuijdred points irom Orange to Prospect.
PTho first crossing of tho Blue Mountains was accomplished in May and Juno of 1813, by a party led by Gregory B!nxland, a native of Kent, who landed in Australia in, April, 1806. Blaxlnnd and his party in discovering paths through the the gigantic maze of nigged heights and stupendous ravines had to be constautly on the alert against natives.]
