THE MANLY BURGLARY.
• o MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright Sydney, May 27. Allen Main has been committed for trial on a charge of murdering M'r. Overton, a laundry proprietor at Manly. In a statement to tlra police, Main declared that he had fired the first shot to frighten Overton, but with no intention to hit him. The second shot was fired when Overton was holding him down and was intended to hit him in'the arm. Main handed over the stolen jewellery at the tiino of his arrest. [Mr. Overton was awakened by hearing file burglar in his bedroom on Hio night of May 7. Ho grappled with him, and a severe fight ensued. Tho intruder fired his revolver ■wounding Overton in tho neck. In spite of the wound, Overton continued to struggle with his assailant, and tho burglar again fired, inflicting a wound in tho stomach. Retaining his hold on the desperado, Overton was dragged into tho passage, where tho burglar shook himself free, and ejeaped with JI2O worth of jewellery."]
