When Stepnev won the Empire Handicap at Wangauui it was the first occasion that "Mr. Harvey Kaynor's" colours had been seen on a winner, though several times Dearest, another of his team, has been in a place. Now that tho Petono owner has broken the ice it is to be hoped that 'ho will win many more races. A Riccarton sportsman, who regularly sees the juveniles at exercise, says that Chokebore Lodgo is likely to bo represented by somo smart two-year-olds next spring. Amongst them are a full-sister to Counterfeit and a San Francisco—Madowla colt, both of which look like turning out gallopers of a high order. Mr. F. Hall, owner of Mira, Obligant, and Co., is at present on a visit to Wellington. Glenfern and Princess Flo, in charge of trainer Musaon, arrived at Otaki oil Monday, and will l>o racing there next week. Hor=es are being entrained and shipped to Ellerslio from all parts at the present time, and the winter meeting of the Auckland Racing Club promises to be a highly successful one. Tho opening day is Saturdav next, when the Cornwall Handicap and the. Great Northern Hurdles will come up for decision. A visitor from Auckland, who was present at the Wanganui meeting lost week, "ivesit as his opinion that the hurdles at Ellcrslie will be tho undoing of Chief Marshal, for ho is a very careless jumper and a baxl actioncd horse. Many agree with this view, and say his stable mate, Whakaweira, is sure to finish in front of him.
From Napier comes word of tho good preparation Princo Eddie has got through in view of his Great Northern Hurdles engagement, and during the last week ho has been well supported in doubles, coupled with Glenmore and Hautere. Idealism, the Karamu representative for the' Great Northern Hurdles, continues to li»uro in the short-priced division. The form of the Birkenhead gelding hardly warrants his position, unless he has made a big improvement since ho raced at Hastings.
Kleacoinbo is going great guns over the bi" fences at Napier. He is to be nominated for tho steeplechase events at the Hastings and Park meetings. Sea Pink is in the Cornwall Handicap nt Eilerslie on Saturday, with the minimum impost. Ho is to be ridden by L. Wilson, and will, so his supporters declare, show much better form than he has done for a long timo past. He showed Trainer T/Quinlivan something extra special before being put on the boat for Auckland.
Accommodation lias been booked for Nyland at Otaki, and the Winter Cup winner is to race in the hurdle events there next week. If Goodwill Park, Aberbmthock, Sea. 11. Futcher is to ride Red M'Gregorin tho Great Northern Steeplechase. Ilie old chestnut «xia this event in 1011. but whether ho Is sa good now remains to bo seen.
On the day that E. Lowe rode Midnight Sun in tho Adelaide Cup ho also scored on Flnmen in the Baker Handicap, six furlongs, after a hard finish with Penza, who was ridden by tho crack Sydney horseman, W. 11. Smith..
The accident to I'. 1-iynn, reported in this issue, conies at a bad time, and is especially unfortunate, as Flynn had just got over a bad fall received at I'oildiilg last Easter. Ilotfever, there is the consolinp news that no bones are broken, and for this alono the Hastings horseman must bcr thankful.
