COW TESTING.
SCALES V. MAN'S JUDGMENT. Another instnnco of Hip valtio of contesting associations as a means of ascertaining ths> cnrniiiy power of individual cows was brought under the notice of a Dominion representative by a Woodvillo dairy man the oilier day. As o result ot joining a properly conducted testing association in his district, tho dairyman in question has been compelled, against his own judgment, to roverso the order of merit of many of his cows since the evidence of tho. scales and tester has been forthcoming. He instanced the record of ono cow in particular. Oil judging her on her bucket performance, lie had decided that she was below the standard of the herd, and lind singled her out as a cull, and placed lior under offer for salo at a low figure. This was before tho association had been established. To-day .£-0 would not buy this particular cow, now that her exact performance is known. On the other hand, several members of the herd that had previously been held in high estimation will figuro as rejects in the next clearing sale.
"Opportunity is said to bo the cream of time." But tho cream of opportunityis to gain something tangible with less effort than previously. That is ono reason why the 'progressive fnrmer of today instals the "Anderson" Oil Eiwino to drive his .milking machine. The "Anderson" cut? the labour question down to a fine point. Moreover, its uses on tho farm are almost legion. It will drive a circular saw, corn crusher, and water pump, and it puts the "hired man" out of your calculations. Full and interesting details forthcoming on request from Anderson's, Ltd., Christcluirch.—Advt.
Even the chcese factory manager can lighten tho load ot responsibility that hears him down—by installing "Victor" Vats in place of tliosc old-fnshione<l flatliottom vats. The "Victor" lias a sloping bottom, and a central drain, which ensures a perfect flow of whoy, thus leaving tho curds high and dry. This is tho way to success. By this means_ you get better quality clicesc, lietter prices, and' bigger profits. Send for particulars of the "Victor" Vat to-day—it's worth while. A. J. Parton, Plumber, Carterton.—Advt.
