N.Z. CHESS ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Chess Association was held in Mr. A. G. Fell's rooms in the King's Chambers last evening:, Mr. J. G. W. Dalrymplo presiding. The secretary stated in his annual report that the association now consists of sixteen clubs. It is hoped that a club recently formed at Greymouth will scon be strong enough to' join the association. The balance-sheet showed a small debit.
Tho following officers werp elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, his "Excellency ; tho Governor; president, Mr. C. J. Parr '(Mayor of Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. C. Grierson, A. Asliton. R. Barnes, P. W. H. ICummer, 0. C. Pleasants, P. Still, R. A. Joseph, A. Beck, A. Gifford, G. Brown, and the Eev. Archdeacon Gould; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. G. Fell; auditor, Mr. W. Mackay. . It was decided that next year's Now Zealand championship congress bo held at Auckland.
On the motion of Mr. Poll it. was decided to adopt "The Laws of Chess" as issued by the British Chess Federation in 1912 in place of "The British Chess Code." , Mr. . Fell stated that "Tho Laws of Chess" wqre better, shorter, and more concise than the Chess Code. Tho only important alteration in rules which the substitution would involve was that "Tho Laws of Chess" allowed a competitor to analyse a game during an adjournment. It was suggested that ,in pome resnccts tho new rules might be modified by local amendments.
