WANGANUI TRAM RETURNS.
(By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, May 2G. Tho tramway returns for the year ended March 01 show a largo increase of business over the previous twelve months, and, in spite of the fact that a largo amount of repair work (including track rcnewnls and ii virtual rebuilding of some cars) was paid for oul of revenue, the svstcm continues to pay its way, ami lia-s justified the optimism of the Borough Council in embarking upon it. Tho car mileage run (luring the year was 50,000 miles more than during the preceding Iwlve months, while the total passengers carried was !,%!),587, or almost half a million more than during tho previous corresponding period. The total revenue earned was .615,032, of which the borough portion contributed JM3.o27—an increase of .C 2875 over what was earnedby the same portion for 1911-12- Die GonvilleCastleclifT Tramway Board's portion earned J2WH for the ten months during which it has been opened, and, after paying working expenses, the board lias a surplus of jC3GS.
