TRAFFIC IN GIGS.
PECULIAR NORTHERN CASE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 24. A married man named Robt. Charles Bull, aged 35 years, who resided with his parents in Fanmuro Road, and carried on tho trade of a coaclibuilder in a shop near tho house, was arrested yesterday oil a charge of stealing two gigs. The arrest is tho outcomo ol' detective inquiries concerning the mystery of missing gigs in tho Kemuera and Ellerslie districts. Within tho last six months three gigs have disappeared by night, never to oo seen again, Tho result of information received was a visit yestorday to bull's house, whera various parts of a missing gig were found hidden about .the workshop and house. The wheels had been repainted and fitted 1 with new axle boxes, to onablo an altogether different typo of axle to be fitted into them, while a new body was ready to bo mounted on them, and in various ways smaller parts of tho gig had been ingeniously altered. Bull told the detective that ho had burnt the original bodjl of tho gig, aud also admitted having stolen a gig on November 21 from the yard nf Wm, Barry at Ellerslie. . 1 hat pg, ho said, had been repainted and otherwise altered and then sold for .£lO to a. dealer in second-hand gigs in the city. Ho added that his wife had been ill, and ho took tlio gig in order to get money for medical attention she required. "At tlio Police morning Bull was charged with liauuff stolen two gigs valued at iCM, and waj remanded till Friday.
