WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. CONSTITUTION OF COMMITTEES. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board was held yesterday, there being present: Rev. W. A. Evans (chairman), Mrs. M'Laren, Miss M. Richmond, Rev. J. K. Elliott, Rev. H. Van Staveren, Dr. Mackenzie, Dr. Platts-Mills, Messrs. H. Baldwin. D. Campbell, F. Castle, H. Freeman, W. Galloway, B. R. Gardener, D. M'Laren, J. W. M'Ewan, G. Nash, G. J. Petherick, D. Robertson, and J. Smith.
Tho tender of Messrs. Jenkins and Mack, at X 139 10s. 6d., was accepted for the supply of a boiler for tho Nurses' Home.
It was decided to .call for tenders for a motor ambulanco van.
Messrs. Freeman and Gardener were appointed a sub-committee to visit and inspect tho institutions and grounds at tbo Otaki Hospital and Sanatorium fortnightly, examine and inspect all accounts, and report thereon. No patients will in future be admitted to either institutions from tho Horowhenua district (except- urgent oases) without an order signed by ono of tho members.
Nurse Webster was. granted three months' leave of absence for reasons of health.
Sister H. Speedy, acting relieving sister, was given a permanent appointment on the nursing staff. Following upon a report from a special committee set up to review the present constitution of the board's committees, it was decided that "in order to ensure continuity and enable members to lhave an opportunity of coming into direct relation with the various operations and functions of tbe institutions under tho control of the-board. it is proposed that the present standing orders be suspended, and that the board be divided into two main committees—the Hospital Committee and the Charitable Aid Committee, the former to be in chargo of (he hospitals and sanatoria under the'ioontrol of thc : board, and tho latter to\be in charge of outdoor and indoor relief and of public health. It was further suggested that tho Hospital Committee bo divided into two sub-committees—Houso Committee and. Otaki Committee—arid that the Charitable Aid Committee bo divided in like manner into Relief Committee and Public Health Committee. Tho Finance, Property, and Policy Committee, it was recommended, slould consist of seven members, composed of the chairman of .the board, chairmen of tbo various committees, the treasurer of tho board, and ono other member, the chairman of each committee to hold office for one year, and two members of each committee, except the Finance ond Property Committee, bo transferred every tihTeo months.
