ONSLOW COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. Houldsworth) presiding. Councillors R. A. Nicol, E. C. Alderson, D. Munro, C. Bowden, B. Lynneberg, J. C. Gardner, A. Hoby, C. Monro, and L. C. Brown wcro also present. Permission was granted to tho Post and Telegraph Department to lay an underground * cablo from Ngaio store downwards.

In reforenco to the General Labourers' dispute, about which a letter was received, the council decided to abide by whatever award tho Conciliation Court decided upon. On the motion of Councillor Alderson, it was decided that tho borough solicitor's opinion bo obtained as to whether there is legal power to suppress tha boilingdown work at ICaiwarra.

It was decided to placo a sum of money on the borough estimates for the improvement of tho main road.

A letter was received from tlio Post-master-Generil (Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes) witli respect to tho erection of a slottelephone at Kaiwarra. Tho Minister stated that a number of slot telephones were now under construction, and that he hoped before long to, havo Kaiwarra supplied with one. It was resolved to ninko application to tho Postmaster-General tq havo the Kaiwarra Post Office opened for business from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and' Fridays for the convenience of residents working outside tho township. In consequence of a report received frnm the Reserves' Committee, it was de-, cidcd to have tlio whole of the eatchmont area fenced in accordance vitli tho engineer's report. Tenders are to bo called for tho work, and fencing notices arc to bo sent to all adjoining property owners.

A deputation representing the Khandallah ratepayers waited on the council, in connection with a request for improved access from Kaiwarra to IChandallah, via Victoria Road.

Mr, E. K. Kelly, speaking on behalf of the deputation, said that the present acoess was a severe handicap, to tho Khandallah residents. '

The Mayor said that the matter would bo looked into, and a report would be made later on.
