SIR STUART SAMUEL'S FINES.
"A COMMON INFORMER" SUES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 20. The caso has opened in which Oswald Forbes, as a common informer,, is suing Sir Stuart Samuel, claiming i4G,OGO as penalties against Sir Stuart for sitting ami voting in the llouso of Commons when ho was not legally entitled to do so.
[Sir Stuart Samutl having voted 90 times in the House of Commons while sitting illegally as a member, became liablo to fines totalling ,£46,500. Tho banking firm of which Sir Stuart Samuel is a member carried out a contract for 'the purchase of silver for tho Indian Government. In cousequcnco his sent was declared vacant, but' ho was subsequently re-olected. The Government _ tlucu. anlioduccd an Indemnity Bill, which has met with some opposition from Radicals, Nationalists, and Unionists. Lord Hugh Cecil has given notice to move that Wlule the House is agiwable to indemnity in respect of exaggerated penalties, Sir Stuart Samuel should pay a moderate penalty.j ,
