TAXI-DRIVERS' OBLIGATION.
LEGAL FAHE'.jiuST BE TAKEN. (By Telegraph,—Press ataoclatlon.J Auckland, May 20. A case involving tho obligation upon a licensed taxi-driver to accept a fare when not engaged was heard at the Police Court this morning, .Frank Norman being'charged with refusing to carrv a young lady on April 27, though the legal fare was tendered. It was alleged that Norman refused, saying the run was too' short.
Mr. Cutfccn, S.M., said the point was of some importance, because, unless the bylaw was enforced, tho regulations fixing fares were useless. Drivers might refuse to. hire unless an unreasonable fare wero promised. He would not -impose a severe penalty this time, but would inflict a fin 6. of ten shillings.
