9 DEATH ON OPERATING TABLE. On Saturday morning Dr. M'Arthur, S.M. held an inquest concerning the death of liichard Gr.vlls, who died in a private hospital on Thursday whilst undergoing an operation. Evidence was given by Dr. Tolhurst to tho effect that while deceased was being operated on for strangulated rupturo vomiting commenced, and then his heart ceased to act. All possible restoratives were applied without success. Tho operation was almost completed when tho patient collapsed. Tho verdict was that death was due to strangulated rupture, exhaustion, and heart failure, accelerated by the operation. DROWNING FATALITY. . (By TcleErapli.—Pross Association.) Dunedin, May 17. Marton, May 17, Richard Niccolls, about ?1 years of age, died suddenly ill lied early litis morning, apparently from apoplexy. His parents reside at Feildiug. New Plymouth, May 17. An elderly man named Thomas Martin, lately from Wellington, an expressman, died suddenly this morning of a paralytic stroke. BARMAN'S BODY FOUND. Auckland, May 17. Tho body found in the harbour lias been identified as that of James Butler, a waiter and barman. He had been suffering froni a cold, but apparently was not depressed, nnd his friends did not think he was the sort of man to commit suicide. The jury returned a verdict of "Found drowned." CHILD'S SAD BEAT!!. Christchurch, May IS. Josephine Robina l!oot, two years of age, whoso parents reside in Spreydou, was found drowned in a hole on Saturday afternoon. At tho inquest 10-dav, before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, coroner, tho evidence showed that some days ago a hole was dug in the garden for Hie reception of rubbish, and it became full of water as tlm result of tho heavy rains experienced. About a quarter to three o'clock oil Saturday aflernuou (ho little one was missed from tho house, and on a search being made she was found in the hole.
