POLICE SERGEANT'S DEATH.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST, "FATHER FIRED IN SELF-DEFENCE" By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyriffht Sydney, May 18. At an inquest concerning tlio death of Sergeant Edwin Hickey, who was shot at St. Ives, 12 miles north of Sydney, on May 1, while serving two commitment warrants on a man named Thomas Edwin Brown, an orchardist, residing thero, the police evidence showed that but for Brown's son jumping between them Consfcablo Barclay, who had accompanied the sergennt, would also have keen shot.
Tho evidence of Brown's sons was bo tho effect that Hickey seized Brown, and that there was a fierce struggle. Their father fired in self-defence.
