Mr. Gillan declared that cannibalism was still prevalent in the New Hebrides. He stated that recently the bodies of two women and two children had been eaten. Mission work, Mr. Gillan said, had been interrupted 'by unscrupulous French traders, who amongst other breaclies of the law, kidnapped and sold natives. Ho had himself bought one native for and released him from bondage.
