So'mo'of the low-lying sub-' urbs aro flooded. A heavy sea continues. The bathing-sheds at Manly and somo other resorts have been swept away. There are heavy floods in the Hawkesbury, Nepean, and Hunter Rivers, and largo areas of low-lying lands are inundated. Serious damage, has been done to crops and there have been considerable losses of stock. Many people have been compelled to leave their homes. In some cases they were rescued by boats. Numerous railway washaways and land slip 3 have taken place and traffic is impeded. Maitland and other townships, in the Hunter River valley have been out off, and the position is serious. ■ Latest reports state, Tiowever, that the flood is stationary. Most of the other rivers have commenced to subside. The young man Egan, whose death by drowning while en route to Morpeth, was reported, was crossing a flooded creek in a sulky. Egaii and the horse were drowned. A second man was carried down by tie flood for a distance of a mile, but then managed to escape.
RAILWAY TRAFFIC SUSPENDED. Brisbane, May 16. The express train is , blocked beyond Singleton (on "the Hunter River), and all northern traffic has been temporarily suspended.
