TOUR FOR SWIMMERS.
— o NO QUORUM TO DISCUSS IT. "No quorum" led to tho oollapse of a 6peaial meeting of the Wellington Swimming Centre, which was to have been held 011 Wednesday in tho Sports' Federation rooms, to consider a proposal to send a team of Now Zealand swimmers to compete at Sydney next season. Ten delegates were required to constitute a quorum, but of t'lio thirty odd delegates who represent clubs affiliated to the centre only nine attended. These were: Messrs. J. F. Atkins (chairman), T. Shields, R. Grimmctt, W. > Hurris, L. Blundcll. C. 8011, G. S. Hill, A. W. Smith, and H. C. W. Blick. The chairman said that in regard to tepid baths the centre was waiting for a reply from Councillor Frost, a 9 to tho date upon which tho Reserves Committee would receive a deputation on the subjeot. When tho chairman called upon tho business for which the meeting had been called, Mr. Hill pointed out that there was not a quorum present. The rules required that ton members should attend at all general meetings. Mr. Hill suggested that tho centro might informally discuss tho proposed tour, any decisionarrived at to bo confirmed at a subsequent meeting. This was not done, but for au hour the delegates present waited in tho hope that the additional individual required would put in an appearance. Caustic comment was made upon tho lack of (interest in the business of tho centro on tho part of a majority of its delegates, indicated by tho state of the meeting. At nino o clock tho delegates dispersed. Details regarding the proposed Australian tour are contained in a circular letter from Mr. G. Rich, secretary of tho Christchurch Centro, which has been sent to tho various centres affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Mr. Rich states, inter alia, that his suggestion is that the affiliated centres of New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association agree to select representatives as follow:—Auckland, Canterbury, and Wellington, each threo; Hawke's Bay, two; Nelson, Otago, Wanganui, and South Canterbury, each one. Each centre, he suggests, should pay tho expenses of its representatives, and tho New Zealand Association the expenses of a manager to travel with the team. Mr. Rich states that he is informed that an invitation to New Zealand to send a team to Sydney is about, to be issued by • the Manly Amateur Swimming Club, which would ljndertake to arrange n series of test race<( etc. Tho Manly Club, ho adds, would allow the New Zealand' Association all profits arising out of tho visit. Mr. Rich estimates as follows tho approximate cost of the tour to each centre:—Auckland (three men), .£sl 125.; Canterbury (three men), JMfl 17s. Gd.; Wellington (threo men), .£43 lGs.; Hawke's Bay (two men). .£32 10s.; Nelson (one man), J-l. r > 45.; Wanganui (one man), .£ls Bs.; Otago (one man), .£l7 lis.; South Canterbury (one man), JUG fls. Gd.; total (fifteen men), i! 242 Bs. Proceeds from tho competitions, Mr. I Rich estimates, would .amount to ,£125, which would mean a rebate of roughly fifty per cent, to the New Zealand centres. After enlarging upon tho advantages arising from such a tour as he advocates, Mr. Rich asks the cenlres to givo the proposal their earnest consideration)
