SHANNON NOTES.

The Rev. Mr. J, A. Mackenzie occupied the chair at the inaugural debate of the Literary and Debating Society, when Mr. ,T. S. Barclay moved:—"That l'rec Trnde is preferable to Protection." The item on the society syllabus for next Tuesday evening is "Curios." Messrs. Saunders Bros, intend resuming (lax-dressing at their local mill next Mason. The Slianhor.-Foxton Road has been closed until further notice for heavy traffic by the Manawatn County Council. The Whitannni Mill will close down one of its four strippers this week.
