NOTES ON THE RACING,
(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Hawcra, May 15. The Egmont races concluded to-<ltiy in dull weather. Rain foil .overnight, but it had little sheet on the going, which was equally as good a? yesterday.. The attendance wis up to the average of a second day on this course. »v..:rul well-backed •favourites got home to-day. The leading jockeys, C. lymertori and h. Dccley, faiicd to' add to their scoit. Lconta put up a great -performance in the big handicap, which lie v.'o.i without the aid of his rider's stick. W. Price, who rale him. was also successful cii another favourite, in Kanilii, but h.H only otter mount, Killain, who was also a hot favourite, got beaten out of a place. The withdrawal of the three top-weights left Kaniki as the most likely to prevail in tha opening event. Ye.stcrilay'.s winner <lTew an outside humber to-day, and many people stood off in consequence, but he was always favourite. ■ Tree LuceriK was the first to show out, and, joined by Yankee- Doodle at the end of n furlou;;, the pair led Kanilii (who whs under </strong pull) to the tuTii. Here Price brought th> favourite along en the outside, and won very comfortably from Wild Lupin (.who Sut in ». fj° 3 d run in the straight'!, nnd 'anlcee Doodle. Tree Lucerne was fourth.
The first day's form pointed to Incuru for the Open Spring event, but Decley, in the saddle on 'I'etikura, cnu-ml many backers to discard the favourite, who was first to leave the mark, and was not headed again. Down the back Royal Simon got chopped out. and was sent back to last place. Ac-ross lb? boltc.il bend liyronia and Katua were m-arcsv. to the leader, but in the straight Tetikura came fast on tho outside, and, though k" could not Teach the lender, he pas«?d all the others very easily. Katua was a. head in front of Boronia, and th! : n c-.nne Lady Volga and Mon Ami.
A. Atwocd Parted two horses in the hurdles, Ngntimaru and Supreme, and thsr ran. .'ind second. W. Young made his appearance in the saddle as a hurdfc jockey on the firstnamed, which tho public sent ont a 'hot favourite. Timothy took the field along at a smart pace for the first half-mile. When he and .lack Pin, who vers in the lead, both got into the second fence. Supreme then rushed to the front, bur Ngatimaru followed himi half a m.ib from home, and, jumping fo the front, at the next fence, he ran in a comfortable winner. Bismarck,' under the whip, came from a long way back and got third/place, fhfc- winner's form justified all that had been saw of him yesterday, and he is now to be contfl'dered for the Century llurdl'£. &t. Luap and John Willie were withdrawn from iho Opukc Handicap, and the public made Kilrniiii a hot order, quite ltgardless of the fact that luvauer had won with a lot in hand the evening; previously. At the jump away, Iu ram swerwd badly, ami Kurnalpi got a lengths Ureal:. Going down the back lwlrain was in second place, just behind Ktirnnlpi and invader, who were together. The latter cainc away in tlic straight, and won nicely from Kiirnatpi and iviuigikapna. The favourite iailHl to get an opening and could only finish fourth. ' Two much-fancied candidate? 111 llio Dodger and Lord Lupin were withdrawn from the Shorts' Handicap, leaving a field of ssventtijii runners. liatnna, /ion, and Tiora were backed in that order. At the start Zion was quickest. to hegin, and she led Ridicule to the turn, when? she collapsed. Sepoy ahdHatana then came through, and the firstnamed just caught awl beat Ridicule, who took a lot of ridin#. Tiora was lost to l?avo toe idwk» and ran bsliind the whole Patroon showed a lot of pace, and should foe heard of again Tho winner was the mo-A teaaoned of tha field and in addition to n<&
messing pace, his condition. carried hiiu through at the finish. Lcouta confirmed the good impression previously formed of liim '>. v winning the big 'handicap to-day under Sst. -lb. At one btage of the journey tli? big CnnrpiPiui' gelding, who stripped in Ri'rat nick. was giving the leaders about thirty length.® start, but when ho aft out to catch them he did to without an effort and won. •'■ij'f'y from Aruake and Lady Jleiiselukoll. im' winner was n good favourite, with J atriutic next in demand. The latter made all tlie running, and led till within :it) yards of the post, when he iiuled away. Kina "-honed up to Ihr turn, when lie oguin broto u blood vessel. Master Lupin, who was brought usrlti for the second tiny of the meeting, w;i> made favourite in tlie concluding event, and, with only lib. front the minimum, he won with ;i good dail in hand. A.
