A Napier Wedding. A very pretty wedding took place ill .St. Matthew's Church, Napier, on Wednesday altornoon, when Miss Amy 'Laura Lomas, third daughter of Mrs. li. Loinas, of. Petane, was married to Mr. Thomas Alexander M'Dowell, youngest son of Mr. R. M'Dowell, of Greenmeadows. Tho bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Alex. Lomas, wore a gown of crepe de cheno, trimmed with silk lace, fiuished with ball trimming, and veil with orange blossoms. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet, a gift from the bridegroom. Miss S. M'Dowell and Misses Ethel Lomas and Boris Martin (nieco of t'iio bridegroom) were bridesmaids. Miss M'Dowell (chief) was attired in a pretty dress of fine muslin embroidery, the waist tnreaded with satin ribbon and finished at the back with a largo satin butterfly bow. She wore a black velvet hat, with white plume, and carried a pink shower with pink streamers. The two °?Ltie girls were dressed in white embroidery, threaded with pale blue ribbon and finished at tho waists with rosettes.They wore hats of silk straw, lined with pale blue and trimmed with satin ribbon, and they each carricd a basket of flowers. Tiro bridesmaids woro gold brooches, presents from the bridegroom. Mr. AV. C. M'Dowell was best man, and Mr. H. Lomas groomsman. Subsequently tho wedding guests were entertained at afternoon tea at tho Piccadilly tearooms by f*io bride's mother. Later, Mr. and "Its. M'Dowell left by motor-car en route for Auckland and Kotorua on their honeymoon, tho bride .wearing a navy blue tailor-made costume, with black beaver hat aud white plumes. Wanganui Wedding, Mr. Charles Itobert Cowper, eldest son of the lato Mr. Charles William Cowper, of "Kukutsi," Wauganui River, lurried on May 8, at Auckland, by Bishop Crossley in his private chapel, lo Miss Marguerite Ingiasey, of Melbourne, Dr. lnglasey giving his sister away. Mr. jitro Cowper was best man. Owing to a fecent bereavement in tho bridegroom's family the marriage was a very quiet one. A Youthful Musician. Recently Mrs. Berger, wife of Herr Berger, of Feilding, took her little daughter Loska (who has frequently charmed Feilding audiences by her remarkably fine playing on tho violin), to Germany, with the object of having an opinion obtained as to uie child's probable success in the musical world. Tho child was subsequently taken to Gondeshausen, famous for its Royal Conservatorium, and Herr lierger has now received word (that Professor A. ,C. Corbach, director, after hcarTig little Loska play several difficult pieces, expressed the.opinion that tho young Feilding violinist hns a great future. She possesses, lie says, extraordinary talent, a perfect ear, and line bowing. Ho avowed that Tie would not allow anyone clps to train her. As ho usually devotes his time to "finishing off" artists, the.honour being conferred on the little protege is regarded as very high indeed. Auckland French Club. llis Excellency the Governor,' accompanied by the Countess of Liverpool, attended the opening seance of the Auckland French Club, which was held in tho Union Buildings on Tuesday evening. Their Excellencies w-ero welcomed, on behalf of the large gathering of members, by tho president of tho club, M. Julian iiigorcau. St. Thomas's Social Club. Oil Wednesday evening the members of St. Thomas's Social Club gave an open night to their. Iriends, and tho gathering proved a very successful one. The Rev. W. 11. Walton welcomed those who wcro not members, and said he hoped that many of them would soon enrol. An interesting programmo was contributed to by the following:—Misses Christie, Luckling, and Chisholni, and Messrs. llobbins, Keay, and Christie. Supper was served at 10 p.m., and a pleasant function brought tho gathering to a conclusion. Among those present were Mesdames Chisholni, Croll, Gcll, nnd Bobbins, Misses Bland (3), Grenside, Alexander, Croll, Felanie, Lobb (2), Christie, Edwards, Gcll, and Chis- ' holm; Messrs. H. Bland, W. Lister, W. i'ancourt, B, Lawrence, H. Smith, C. Sherwood, W. H- "Walton, H. H. Keay, W. Wood, A. Keer, E. Lee, B. Bell, Tonks, Lorn, Green, Bobbins, Boyes, Jackson, Cederholm. and many others.
Miss K. Clark leaves Wellington on Saturday for Blenheim, whore she will bo uio guest for some days of her sister, Mrs. B. Bngge. Mr. and Mrs. .Tames Mowleni, of Palmerston North, left for England by the lonic yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fitzhcrbert left Wangauui on Wednesday cit route for Java and China. Mrs. and Miss Bassett- (Christchurch), Mr., Mrs., and the Misses Barker (Gis- • ironic),' and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murdoch (Wellington) left yesterday for England. A very enjoyable tea was given in Miss Tendall's tearooms yesterday afternoon by the members of the Ladies' Guild of the Khandnllah Presbyterian Church-, for tho Misses Clark, who have recently left Khandallah to make their homo iu Wellington.
