COADJUTOR-ARCHBISHOP O'SHEA.
GENERAL CONGRATULATIONS. Coadjutor-Archbishop O'Shea has been Bbowored with congratulations on,his new, appointment, not only from friends in' Wellington, but from all parts of New Zealand. Though Demi O'Shea was bom in San Francisco, ho came to Wellington jn boyhood, and has spent the whole of his lifetime in. New Zealand—almost ■wholly in Wellington. Ho was one of the earliest students of St. Patrick's College, ■whoso iecords show, the quality of his scholastic' attainments as \vell as liis prowess on- the fotftball field in tho days when the colours of "St. Pat's" were prominent in- Itugby , doings. From St. Patrick's College he progressed to th© Moeanco Seminary (Hawkc's Bay), as n candidate for the priesthood, where he proved,himself 'to be a devout and brilliant student of theology and philosophy, and before he left the institution he, was, though still very young, honoured with the appointment of Professor of Philosophy. Seventeen years ago he returned to Wellington, and ever sinco has been connected with To, Aro parish,, in tho affairs of which ho "lias 'shown' uncommon zeal. Some years ago ho was appointed Vicar-General of Wellington, anil ' last year'was promoted to a deajiship. His recent work in connection'with the forma-, tion of a Catholic Federation in New Zealand (in which he was associated with Bishop Cloary, of Auckland) brought liini to the front as an organiser of sound judgment. Tho appointment of Dean O'Shea as does 1101 necessarily mean tho relinquishment of the duties of Vicar-General of Wellington, which position he now holds, but it may mean the appointment of an asAt a meeting of the Wellington District H.A.C'.B.S. Council, presided over by Bio. J. W. Callaglian, on Wednesday evening, a resolution was carried tendering to .his Grace Al-chbishop O'Shea the heartiest congratulations of tho members at the great honour conferred on trim.
