OUR OBSERVATION CAR.
PAYING, BUT NOT BOOMED. According to a report wliicli was furnished "by the Tramways Board to the City Council last evening, the observation car which was put into commission some time ago, more or less by way of experiment, has been a financial success. Reporting on Hie working u[ this ear from March 25 to April 21, the boaril stated that tho revenue for the period wus .MM 25., and the car miles, run 15.050, The running expenses (including fixed charges) per car mile were .£'J4 Is. lid., leaving a net profit of ,tS 2s. Id. The board recommended lliat the charge for travelling ou this car should bo increased to 2s. per passenger, children paying (id. as at present, in San Francisco, it was pointed out, the charge is lis. I'd. for a. trip occupying three and a half hours. The proposed charge was therefore a very reasonable one. liegarding the construct ion of a special observation car, the board was of opinion. that one of the palace ears should be converted, ami could be used for ordinary traffic when required. The time occupied in making the necessary, alterations would be about two months. On the motion for the adoption of the report, Councillor L. M'Kcnzic complained that the observation car was nol sufficiently advertised, and Councillor R. Fletcher agreed with liim. This was'duly i noted, and the report adopted.
