A RETIRING ENGINEER.

ENTERTAINED BY THE INSTITUTE, Chief Engineer Mr. Robert Magill, long and favourably known on the coast of New Zealand, who has recently retired from the service of tho U.S.S. Co., T,td., after a career extending over thirty-six and a half years, was entertained at a farewell social gathering by iho members of the Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers, at tho Institute Rooms, on Tuesday evening. A largo number of engineers and citizens were present. Mr. F. Clennell, vice-president, occupied the chair. Mr. R. Duncan, Chief Inspector of Maehinerv, in a' eulogistic speccln presented Mr. Magill with ft handsome travelling ni" on lielialf of his brother engineers. Messrs. A. Walker (Lloyd's Surveyor), R. I>. Grange (Consulting Engineer), W. K. Blair (British Corporations), A. R. jlivlop 11. Paterson (Superintendent-En-gineer' U.K.S. Co.), 1.. R.
