CHRISTCHUKCH FESTIVITIES. (By Telegraph.—PreEa Association.) Christchurch, May 11. Favoured with fine weather, "Children's Oay" oil 11.M.5. New Zealand passed oft' successfully without a hi'tch to-day. In all over 9000 children from the city schools and 1000_ school teachers and committeeman visited the ship, and wore shown over it. The arrangements made for carrying out 'the inspection were coinpleto and efficacious, and tho children .wore greatly interested in and pleased with what they saw. On every side the greatest enthusiasm and courtesy prevailed— enthusiasm on tho part of tho visitors and courtesy.on thra part of the officers and sailors. The arrangements made by the railway authorities," who ran a dpublo service during the day on the Chnst-church-Lytteltou line, worked out excellently, * 1 In the afternoon, on Lancaster rark, a football match was played between teams representing the w.e.rfflrip and the .territorials. The' match resulted Territorials, 20 points; H.M.S. New Zealand, 8 points. The officers wero entertained at a ball in the evening by members of the Onnstchurch Club. To-inorrow sports will bo hold on the MetroDolitan Trotting Club 3 grounds at Addingtou, and a big attendance is anticipated. "JACK'S" JAUNT TO ASHBURTON. (By Telegraph— Preo3 Aerociation.) Ashburton, May U. A'detachm-it from H.M.S. New Zealand, consists of W; seamen and 22 marines, undsr Lieutenant .North, arrived in. Ashburton at 9.45 this morning and returned to Lyttelton at 5 p.m. They were heartily welcomed and royally entertain ed by'the people of Ashburton borough and county, who turned out en to see them.
