• ME. LOUIS DE PELICHET, ' (By Telegraph..—Special Correspondent.! Hastings, May 13. The sudden and unexpcctul death of Mr, Louis do Pelicliet, which took place this moruing camo as a great shock to tho commercial among whom tiw deceased gentleman was widely respected. Mr. do Pclichct, who was unmarried, boarded at tho Pacific Hotel, aud at about 7 o'clock this morning one of tho housemaids employed at the liotel, on entering his bedroom to give him morning tea, was horrified to find his dead body lying on tho bedside partially clothed. Mr. do Pelicliet had been receiving medical attention lor some time from Dr. Wilson l'or heart trouble, and it is surmised that ho was overcome by a sudden seizure whilst undressing last evening, lio retired to his bedi'oom, as usual, about 11 p.m., und to all appearances was then in his usual health. Mr. L. do l'olichet wns the only son of the late Mr. do Pelicliet, who arrived in New. Zealand in the early days, and engaged in surveying in tho Taranaki district. He was born in Taranaki sixty-one yours ago, ami, with tho exception'of a few years, his life has been spent in the Ilawke's 13ay district. For many years he was manager of his mother's station at Mangaturatn, and somo seven ■ years • ago ho enferal into the partnership with Messrs. J. S. M'Lcod and C. 11. Cato, in the naiuo of do Pelicliet, M'Lcod, and Co., merchaiijs; and'woolbrokers. . In tho -racing arena ho lias been a very prominent ligure, having been for many years treasurer to tho Hawko's Bay.Jockey Club, a position which lio held nt tho tinio of his death. The gentleman's widowed mother was married to thfe late air. Donald Gollan, of Mnngatarato, so that Mr. Spencer Gollan is tho late Mr. do Peliciiet's half-brother. Flags were flying at half-mast from many of the buildings of private firms in Hastings and Napier to-day, as a mark of respect to deceased's memory.
