THE NEW HEBRIDES.
f PROBLEM OF CONTROL. WHAT A MISSIONARY SUGGESTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 12. The Rev. Fred. Patlon, Son of tho famous pioneer missionary of tho New Hebrides, and himself a missionary there, declares that there is only one satisfactory way of solving tho problem of the control of tho Islands—namely, buying out the French interests.' Mr. Patton estimates that it would cost from £250,000 to <£300,C00 to do so, but tho expenditure should be regarded as an insurance, since the group in its present condition constitutes a positive menace to Australia. Japaneso and Tongkinges'e are, Mr. Patton states, pouriiig into New Caledonia, whence they can easily go to the New Hebrides. • Ho suggests that Australia and New Zealand should combine in tho acquisition of tho group.
