This is tho first real newspaper employing a cable colunm published in Antarctica. It consists of twenty-six pages, and so far has a circulation of seven copies. The editor, Doctor M'Lean, sends greetings to his contemporaries, and applies to be admitted as an honorary member of the Australian Journalists' Association. "Tho wireless mast and plant .are in good-condition, although the-Aurora magnetic storms in line between here and the Macquarries often interfere with tho transmission of messages. "This njonlh there lias been slightly less wind than in tho corresponding month of. 1912, although there have been some sevoro snowfalls, which havo practically snowed up tho hut. Anyway, there is no chanco now of the hut being blown away. "When winter set iu last year the bay was frozen over for only a couple of days, but now it is frozen hard- for as great a distance as the eye can fee. Shortly before the bay was frozen over tliero was an exodus of all the penguins and seals. Tho only birds remaining are the Antarctic petrels and snow petrels. "One of tho dogs presented by Amundsen met with an accident and had to be killed. It was immediately pounced on by the others and eaten. "All tho scientific instruments are running well, and wo are collecting some valuable date. As tlie bay is frozen, we expect to bo able to do some interesting marine work in tho early spring. The climate is fine and bracing. "All tlie members of the expedition are in tho best of health."
