A CRITICISM OF BERGSON.
"Christ and Bergson" is the rather I sensational title of Canon George \V. Douglas's observations , in the "North American Review" on the French philosopher. Dr. Douglas reproaches Pro.' fessor Bergson with having failed to take account of one of the most potent influences ill tho creatii-o evolution of (ho spirit of modern man—namely, the teachings of the Nazarenc. He is all the more disappointed Lecauso lie finds Bergson revealing himself ns logically prepared for such a view in a recently-published letter, in which the French philosopher writes; "The considerations set forth in my essay on the immediate facts of consciousness are intended to bring to light the fact of Liberty: those m 'Matter and Memory' touch upon the reality of Spirit: those ill 'Creative Evolution' present creation as a fact. From all this I'lure clearly emerges the idea of a Ood, creator and flee; tho generator at once of matter and of life, whose creative efforts as regards life aro continued through the evolution of species and the, constitution of human pursomiliticii.
