ASHBURTON COUNTY MEETING, i , SECOND DAY'S RESULTS. THE CORNET WINS BIG EVENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ashburton, May 9. Though heavy rain fell early this morning, and sleet showers commenced at 4.30 p.m., tho Ashburton County Racing Club concluded its meeting very successfully. It was, of course, very damp under foot, and the going was decidedly heavy, but the attendance was not greatly alt'ected. Tho totalisator receipts for tho day ariiounte<l to JEBOII 10s., as against, .£7499 10s. on the second day last year. The figures for tlio meeting reached .£17,077, as compared with .£14,197 10s. in May, 1912, and ,£11,526 10s. in 1011. The following aro tho results:— MORETON HACK HANDICAP, of 100 sovsi Six furlongs.—Nithsdale, Sst. 41b., 1; Martian-Maid, Sst. 31b., 2; Gunflash, Sst. 31b„ 3.. i Scottish Star, Editah, and Andraea wero scratched. Won comfortably by a length and a half. Gunflash was three lengths behind tho second horse. Time, lmin. 18 2-ssec. WINCHMORE WELTER HANDICAP, of 100 sovs. .Seven furlongs.—Waikohua, Gst. 121b., 1; Editah, Bst. 31b., 2: Britain's Cvown, Sst. 31b., 3. All started. Tho winner j*ot home by a length, and Editah •beat Britain's Crown by a neck. Time, lmin. 32 4-ssec. AUTUMN HANDICAP, of 170 sovs. One mile. The Cornet, Bst. Bib 1 Specialform, Sst. Gib 2 Gold Coin, 6st. lllb 3 Bulletin, Medallist. Carolus, and Thuringa wore scratched. Specialform drew out in front at the entrance to. the straight, but The Cornet gradually overhauled her, and in, a splendid finish won on the post by a head, Gold Coin being two lengths away third. Time, lmin. 44 2-osec. JUVENILE HANDICAP, of 120 sovs. Six furlongs—Martian Maid, 7st. 71b., 1; Gold Cup, Bst. Sib., 2; Martins, Bst. 10lb., 3. Glenfin and Suowraker were scratched. The three' placed horses established a commanding position early. At the homo turn Martian Maid took charge, and won by threo lengths from Gold . Cup, who beat Martius by a head. Time, lmin. ISsec. DISPOSAL HANDICAP, of 50 sovs. Five Gst. 10lb., 1; Respond, 7st. 131b., 2; Eaglestone, Sst. 31b., 3, Nithsdale and Miss' Emiu were scratched. Won by half a length. Time, lmin. 4 3-ssec. SELMA TROT HANDICAP, of Gj sovs. One .milo and threo-quarters.—March Hare, 13sec., 1; Elio do Beaumont, 4sec., 2; Linda Wood, Bsec., 3. Rolf Boldrewood was scratched. An exciting finish. Won by a bare length. Time. 3min. 28 2-ssec. WAICANUI HANDICAP, of 125 sovs. Six furlongs.—Carolus, 7st. 211,., 1; Peg, Ost. 21b., 2; Pilgrim's Way, Ost. 41b., 3. Oxenhope and Hpecialform wero scratched. Heavy rain, and a sleet shower cam© on just as the race was started. At tho distanco Peg was leading by half a length, but in a fino finish Carolus won by a neck, with Pilgrim's Way half a length behind Peg. Time, lmin. 17 l-ssec.
