Mr. Lloyd-George, Chancellor of tho Exchequer, in r<>ply to a question in tho House of Lords as to what progress tho Land Committee inquiry had made, said that the agricultural labourer's condition was deplorable. .His wages and his housing wero alike scandalous. Ho had a plan, which he would outline later, whereby tho serious stream of migration would bo diverted, and the surplus population of tho towns would bo placed on the land.
