It is estimated that the recent South Wales coal-miners' strikes to compel the non-unionists to join the unions cost tho unionists .£116,000 in wages. Tho Minors' Federation in Great Britain is initialing a general movement against the non-unionists. BIG RUPTURE IN 'FRISCO. THREAT TO CRIPPLE ALL INDUSTRY. New York, May 8. The employees o£ the Pacific Gas and Electric Company of San Francisco have struck. The company is employing tliree thousand mechanics as strike-breakers. Tho strikers 'threaten to cripple every industrial concern in Lower California. STATE MINE CLOSES DOWN. TROUBLE WITH THE WHEELERS. (Rec. May 9, 9.513 p.m.) Melbourne, May 9. Owing to trouble with tho wheeler lads, work at the State Coal Mine at Wontliaggi has ceased. THE DARWIN TROUBLE. CHINESE AND COOLIES JOIN IN. Darwin, May 9. The strike of members of tho Amalgamated Workers' Association employed by the Federal Government, and who demand a wage of .£1 for a fortv-four-hour week, continues. There is no change in the position of affairs. Chinese teamsters and coolies have refused to work, and thero are more carpenters not working, owing to lack of labourers to assist them. 3000 LABOURERS DOWN TOOLS. v London, May '8. Three thousand builders' labourers at Glasgow liave struck for increased wages. MEETING THE MEN'S DEMANDS. London, May 8. The South Wales coal-owners have increased the men's wages by 2J per cent.
