H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.
OVER 90,000 AUCKLAND VISITORS. (By Telegraph.—Prera Association.) Auckland, May 8. The' battleship New Zealand was open for inspection by tho public for the last time to-day, when many persons visited the warship. Tho New Zealand will sail for Lyttelton early on Saturday moruing. Among tho visitors to the ship to-day .were the members of the Navy League, Victoria League, and the Overseas Club. The heads of the various State Departments also went aboard. It is estimated that well over ninety thousand people have been over the battleship since her arrival in Auckland.
"DAT ENTIRELY FOR CHILDREN." Christchurch, May 8. To-day the Mayor received tho following telegram from the Hon. H. D. Bell:— "Regarding the visit of the H.M.S. New Zealand to Lyttelton, Captain Halsey Ims decided to reserve a day entirely for the school children of Christchurch and district, to be called 'Children's Day."' Tho idea of a children's day is a splendid one, and it was a great success in Auckland. Tho Mayor also Teceivcd a message from Captain Halsey to-day, agreeing to the proposal to accord him a civic reception, LITTLE BOX MISSING. Auckland, May 8. A small boy named Alf. Holland, who came to town to seo the battleship, was missed at tlie railway station on Tuesday. No trace of Mm has since been found.
