(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) . Masterton, Hay 8. Owing to tho shortage of railway trucks a coal {amine is being experienced in Masterton, .and much inconvcnienco is boing occasioned. Protests to tho Department have so far been without avail, but it is understood that tho shortago ol' trucks is duo to tho demand mode upon them in connection with, the military camps. Tho installation of Bro. A. W. Chapman' as Worshipful Master of tho Mastarton Masonic Lodge took place to-night, when visitors were present: from Carterton, Greytown, Martinborough, and sur. rounding districts. R.W. Bro. .Tames Moncrieff acted as installing master. Tho senior hockcy match played to-day between Excelsior and Post and Telegraph teams proved a draw, each side {■coring a goal. Tho Masterton Gun Club opened its season to-day with a t.wonty-one-bird clay match. There were eighteen competitors, and K. Buick won in (he shoot-oft' from two others, who had tied with twenty "kills." The annual meeting of tho Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society was held to-night. Tho report showed that tho past year had been very successful. Officers wWo clected, and it was decidcd to hold three shows in tho ensuing year.
