HUTT RAILWAY LEAGUE.
SUBURBAN DIFFICULTIES. A meeting of executive members of tho Upper flutt Valley Railway League was held at tho Golf House, Heretaumga, on Wednesday evening, Mr. Jf.mes Webster picsiding. The sefcretary (Mr. A. J. M'Curdy) outlined briefly the objects of the meeting, and submitted « review of former meetings sinco tho league's inception. After disoussing various phases of railway reform, from the passengers' point of view, it was decided to arrange an early interview with tho Minister for Railways to secure, if possible, tho following improved conditions of service, as affecting all passengers travelling from Mellings to Upper Hutt and vioo vems—(l) Tho speeding up of all suburban tTaflic, eliminating tho still lengthy delays at Lower i Hutt to and from Upper Hutt. (2) Tho securing of a lamp foe Herctaunga station. (3) The Wa'rarapa and other trains to pull up at intermediate suburban area stations in such manner as to allow of passengers alighting on tho platfomi length, and not fifty yards beyond into ditches and upon dangerous points and levers. (-1) Tho removal of tho unused partition of tho Silverstroam station to givo full accommodation to passengers and school children in wet weather. (5) Tlio erection of a small goods shed at Silvorstrcam to obviate the necessity of goods being stored in tho station in wet weather, to tho inconvenience of passengers. (G) Tho prohibition, of juvenile passengers in smoking compartments. (7) The restoration of tll3 9.25 p.m. train through to Upper Hutt, and tho deletion erf tho present 10.25 p.m. eervice, the three lalb trains on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays being deemed sufficient for the present. The last-named item is considered in tho interests of tho Upper Hutt passengers returning homo of an evening by tlifi Manawatu train. At present thev havo to wait in Wellington from 7 o'clock until 10.30, arriving home at midnight. (S) The connecting of tho Uppor Hutt railway station with the local telephone bureau, to enable Silverstream, Heretauoga, Trentham, Wallacoville, and Upper Hutt residents to inquire of the safe arrival of goods, etc. (9) The substitution of the present large smoking car on tlio 7.37 a.m. train to Wellington for a smaller and more comfortable pattern, as in use on the 8.47 a.m. train. (10> The substitution of engines that will do a 20mile run without water, as on race days.
