(By Telegraph.—Speoial Correspondent ) Wanganui, May 8. The Wanganui municipal gasworks had a very successful year eliding. March' 31. Last year's output lias increased by 17i per cent., and tho cash receipts exceeded thoso of tho previous year by X 3211. After paj ment of working expenses there was a gross profit of iill,i!2B, out of which £2000 was paid to'tho borough's general account, in relief of rates, and Ji2i'2B spent in tlio extension of tho plant. Irterest on loans accounted for .£M77, and the remainder of the profit was absorbed in various services. During the year gas was .considerably reduced in price to consumers. With tho'approach of winter, tho traflio on the Gonville-Castlccliff tramways is beginning to fall off, and last month the receipts were £50 short of tho cost of running. The statement of accounts since tho 6ervioo started last Juno shows, however, that tho Tramway Board is .£268 ahead of operating expenses. Considering tho growing nature of tho district through which tho lino runs, the position, on the whole, is considered to bo satisfactory, and it is expected that duiing tho current financial year the boaxd will find it necessary to levy only half the rate that was struck kit year.
