HARBOUR BOARD.

•MR. FLETCHER AGAIN CHAIRMAN. Tho statutory meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board was held yesterday for the purpose of electing a chairman, and sotting up committees. Tho following members were present:—Messrs. R. Fletcher, C. W. Jones, H. L. Nathan, . \V. T. Hildreth, James. Trevor, R. A. Wright, A. 11. Hindmarsh, D. J. Watsou, J. W. M'Ewan, J. 6. Cobbo, A. AlacFarlane, A. D. Kennedy, and M. Cohen. Leave of abscnco was granted to Mr. C. E. Daniell. Election of Chairman. Mr. W. T. Hildreth nominated Mr. R. Fletcher for the position of chairman, saying that he did not propose to enlarge upon his nominee's qualifications for the office. It was impossible, however, to ignore the very decided expression of approval by tho electors of Mr. Fletcher os a fit person to discharge their trust. Mr. J. W. M'Ewan seconded the nomination. Mr. Fletcher, he said, had been in most' respects an ideal chairman, and had well and worthily upheld tho dignity of tho position, and had also ably conducted the affairs of the board. There were no other nominations, and Mr. Fletcher was declared duly elected. Mr. Fletcher thanked the members for again electing him to the honourable position of chairman. It would be his aim to conduct tho business of the board somewhat in the manner he had done in the past, which might have met with the approval of members. He congratulated the new members at tho table on their, election to tho board.

The following committees were set up:— Wharves and Accounts Committee.— Messrs. R. Fletcher, C. W. Jones, 11. L. Nathan, W. T. nildreth, J. Trevor, K. A. Wright, A. 11. Hindmarsh, 1). J. Watson, J. W. M'Ewan, A. D. Kennedy, and M. Cohen.

Sinking Fund and Special Reserve Fund Investment Committee.—Messrs. Fletcher, Hildreth, Jones, Kennedy, Nathan, Trevor, Watson, and Wright.

Legislation Committee.—Messrs. Fletcher, Hildreth, Hindmarsh, Jones, Trevor, Watson, and Wright.

Before the meeting dispersed, a vote of thanks for services rendered was, on the motion of the chairman, accorded to retiring members—Messrs. ,T. E. Fitzgerald, I?. C. Eenner, P. C. Freeth, and J. G. Harkness.

Mr. A. Macfarlano congratulated tho chairman on his unique record as a member of the "board and as chairman. Not- only had he established a record on being re-eleoted for a fourth term to the position of chairman, but. in his occupancy of the chair he had been able to present to the board, from time to time, statistics showing that the board had at every successive period established a new record, in tho business of the port.
