Park ■ Committee—Councillors Brockel'bank, Townsend, and Wright. After the installation ceremony tlie council considered a report in regard to tho seivngo scheme from Mr. Ciithbert (consulting engineer), of Christehurch. Tho main points of this report entirely agreed with that of the borough engineer and his assistants. The report mentioned that, the system bad boon designed jvith niu'di care and skill and the gradients would ensure that the sewers will be selfeleaiiMiig. Electrical pumping was much to bo preferred to the shore system, or •any other mode, of lifting sewage from sub-stations. The man-holes in the plans were rather large and could be made smaller. Additional power tor pumping purposes was necessary. The report concluded I>v statins that, provided the scheme was faithfully carried out, it would alford every satisfaction. In an explanatory report in regard to the foregoing, .Air. Fox, sewerage engineer, stated that he did not think it advisablo to make the man-holes smaller. The flin. main designed would cope with all requirements and it would not be necessary to increase the size to 12in. as suggested by Mr. Ciithbert. However, the matter had been fully discussed and it. had been decided to put in a 12-in. pipe. The reports were received and the engineers were instructed to proceed with the work at once. Mr. Fox was appointed sewerage engineer in conjunction with Mr. Cowie, Borough Fmgiueer.
