KAKORI COUNCIL.

QUIET PERIOD AHEAD. The installation of the Mayor and councillors of the "Borough of Karori took pines last evening. The Mayor (Air. C. Cathie), who was returned, unopposed, stated that he had pleasure in welcoming the new councillors. It was very gratifying to find that whilst so many gentlemen had retired, chieliy on account of business matters, young men had come forward to assist in the work of' the borough,, lie was very pleased to find that, among those new councillors there was' "new blood." Some of 'them, however, were not new councillors. The yiJlling councillors would find the. work a little strango at first, but they would soon gef'iuto the way of it. Incidentally the speaker mentioned that the borougli had been at times referred to as a "slow place," but he considered that it had showed as much progress as any other Imrough of its size in Wellington. Tho Karori Council did not get grants from syndicates as other boroughs did. _At present there were no big schemes in view, und the work for the ensuing year would lie of an ordinary kind. . It was the -tpeuker's intention to carry out tho works of tho borough as far as funds permitted. The borougli. had been revalued, but he had no figures yet nn that matter. He i understood, however, that tho capital value would be lower than before. This would need careful attention, and tho Finance Committee of tho borough would have to be run on such lines as would leave them in a sound financial position at the end of the year. (Applause.) Mr. Burn, who has been a member of ! the council for the past three years, offered his congratulations to tho Mayor, as also did Councillors Davies, Hamilton, Henderson, Cimino, Skegg, Bradnock, Hamilton. Lewer, and Boycs. Senior Councillor Burn was appointed deputy-Mayor for the ensuing year. The following committees were appoint-ed-Finance: Mayor 'and Councillors Henderson, Davics, and Skegg; Works: Councillors Bum,. Bradnock, Hamilton, and Boves; Tramways: Mayor, and Councillors Henderson, Burn, and Davies; Legal and Compensation: Mayor, and Councillors Hamilton and Cimino; Lighting: Mayor and Councillors Cimino. Henderson. and Skegg; Sanitary: Councillors Bradnock, Lower, mid Davica; Librarj : Councillors Boyes, Cfrmno, and Burn.
