A CRIPPLE CHAMPION.
REMARKABLE ATHLETIC CAREER, Mr. W. W. Francis, who is described as "tho world's cripple champion," and has some remarkable athletic performances to his credit, arrived in Wellington from England by tho Ruapeliu on Saturday. Mr. Francis states that his latest feat was to swim from Pcnarth to Newport on August 27 last, covering tho distance of 15 miles in 4 liours 32 minutes, and this despite the fact that tho summer was ono of the coldest on record in Great Britain. Mr. Francis, who is 27 years old, claims tho following among his records:—World's record for tho athletic mile (cycling, running, walking, ecullin?, and swimming) at Belfast, 1S10S; world's cripple wrestling championship, New Jersey, mil'; English cripple quarter, half, ono, two. and live-mile cycling championships; English cripple wrestling cliamninnships (twice) and Irish (one?). It is his intention to settle in Xew Zealaud.
