CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
TERRACE CONGREGATIONAL. . The Terrace Congregational Church, celebrated its anniversary last evening. A tea was held at 6.15, and later there was a general meeting. The pastor of the church, tho Rev. J. Reed Glasson, presided, and there were about 150 people present. V Brief addresses, wholly on church work, were delivered by the Rev. B. L. Thomas (Masterton), tho Rev. A. Macdonald Aspland (Conrtenay Place), the Rev. W. A. Evans (Newtown), and tho Rev. J. Reed Ulassou. An apology for absenco was received from the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott. At intervals in the meeting tho choir gave admirable renderings of two anthems. Mr. Glasson, on behalf of tho congregation,, bade farewell to the organist, Mr. Horace Hunt, who is leaving Wellington shortly to continue tho study of music in England and in Germany. He assured Mr. Hunt that he would carry •with him from The Terrace congregation the warmest goodwill. He hoped that Mr. Hunt would bo- highly successful in - his studies, that he might coiuo back to Wellington a better musician, and that he would bo appreciated as ho deserved Mr." Hunt replied briefly, thanking Mr. Glasson for his kind expressions of goodwill. Ho also thanked the choir for their loyal and enthusiastic support. Tho annual report stated that there were 112 members on the roll, being an increase of eight during the year. Regret was expressed at the state of tile Rev. Mr. ,T. K. Glass em's health during the past twelve months, which had caused his family, the ch'iTch officers, and members much anxiety. , The number of scholars on the roll of Sunday school had fallen from 100 to 68 but tho school is still m a healthy condition. The average attendance was the same as that of the previous year, viz 72. The Beroau graded lessons, published in Amerioa, have been introduced nnd are appreciated, both by tho teachers and scholars. This has necessitated dividing the school into a greater number of clasps, and a consequent increase, of five on tho teaching staff. The superintendent, Mr. Mcadowcroft, -is assisted by on cfficicut. staff of teachers and officers. Tho work of tho Young Women s Club has been successfully carried on during tho year. With a membership of 30, tho average attendance has been 18. In Juno and December, the oustomary distributions of garments was made, parcels being sent to tho district nursos and the Sisters of the Wcslcyan Missions. A total of nearly 400 new and second-hand garments have been collected and distributed. Tho Young Men's Club has recently been formed. It meets in tho schoolroom every Friday evening at 7.30, tile object being to provide a means of social intercourse amongst the young men attending tho church. The meetings nre to be of a literary, musical, nnd dramatic character, due attention being also paid to the athletic side.. The young men of the congregation arff stated to bo responding well, and tliere is evidence to s'lww that a permanent and successful club will be. established, and much good result to the church. This year's deputation on behalf of the London' Missionary Society was the Rev. Walter Huekitt, of Madagascar (formerly of Samoa), and Miss Crouch, of Salem, South India. The amount raised for tho society by the church and Sunday school in 1912 was =Cloi' 7s. -Id.
