ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
- ' — -« — SAD CITY AFFAIE. What is supposed by the authorities to be a case of suicide occurred at the Thorndon Privato Hospital yesterday morning. The deceased is Miss A. J. Percy, 50 years of age, who was until recently living with relatives at Petone. Miss Percy had been under tho care of Dr. Collins, and about three weeks ago he had her removed to the hospital. About seven o'clock yesterday morning Nurse James saw Miss Percy who appeared to be all right. Twenty minutes lat?r, however, she found her dead in her room, suspended by a strap. _ An inquest will be held at 3 o clock this afternoon. SUDDEN DEATH. Mr. Daniel Moorebrook died suddenly at No. 280 The Terrace early -'yesterday morning. ' On Sunday he complained of a pain in tho chest, and at about seven o'clock yesterday morning his wife found him dehd in the kitchen. An inquest will be held, probably to-day. MAOEI CHILD BUENT, • (By .Telegraph.—Prese Association.) Cambridge, May 6. The Cambridge police have received telegraphic information of a fatality at Waotu, near Horahora, yesterday, a Maori child having bee:i accidentally burnt to death. SON SHOT BY FATHEE. ' Auckland, May G. ■ A report from Huntly states that Ernest Atrill, aged IS, belonging to Mara-mai-ua, was killed while shooting with his father. He got into the line of fire, received the' charge, and died as he was being carried into a house. . RUN OVER BY A TRAIN. Invercargill, May G. ..Charles Nichol, aged 3G years, married, was run over by a train from Otautau this morning. He left home to feed his liorses, and it is surmised that when crossing the line he was struck by the engine. 1 The driver did not see the acoident, and the victim was not picked up till a goods train arrived later. Both legs were cut off. Nichol died on the way to the hospital '
CLOSE CALL WITH CHAFFCUTTER. (By Telegraph.-Bpeoial Correspondent.) Wanganui, May 6. A day or two ago Mr. Georgo W. Miller, o£ Waverley, had a very narrow cscape from death. Ho was engaged ■in footling a chaff cutter belonging to Mr. WM'Naughton, when, by some means, his coat becamo entangled in tho shafting of the elevator. His fine physique saved liis life, as he put his strength- against tho force of the machinery, and not a moment too soon tho coat settled matters by bursting. Tho only injuries sustained were a badly-cut hand l and' some sovere bruises on tho right arm, Against Accidents and Sickness insure with the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, Ltd., 117 and 121 Customhouse Quay,, Wellington.—Advt.
