EXCHANGES OF PROPETIES.
: fy— . SYSTEM CONDEMNED. (By Tolegrapfc.—Press Association.) Christchurch, May 5. Some interesting observations on transactions embodying an exchange of properties were made by Mr. H. W. Bishop, •S.M., in the course of a judgment delivered in tho Magistrate's Court this morning. It was tho practice, he declared. for owners of properties to place excessively high valuos on properties they desired to exchange, and in many cases one party tried to "have" the other parly in this way. He realised the impropriety of thes'o transactions, and, while the [iractice was prevalent all over the Dominion. Mr. Bishop said ho (lid not think it was carried on to tho fame extent anywhere else as in this district. Land agents naturally benefited from such a practice, but the agents in such cases should only receive what they were entitled"'to under the law. Mr. Bishop declared that lie would always discourage these transactions.
